Daniel Hanson- About Me

Since you asked,

I am a 25-year-old, Pittsburgh-raised freelancer pursuing a career in the advertising industry.

Following my tenure at Central Catholic High School, I attended the College of Wooster for undergraduate studies, receiving a 3.8 GPA in my major of history, and engaging in a wide range of academic and extracurricular challenges. However, my most formative experience at Wooster was my time as a section editor of the campus newspaper, the Wooster Voice. This experience re-kindled my love of writing, and started me on my long, ongoing journey towards a career in copywriting.

After graduating in 2012, I quickly enrolled in Duquesne University's Journalism and Media Arts graduate program, pursuing an MS in the focus of New Media Management. This unique graduate program focused on a wide range of media- and marketing-related skills, including Public Relations, marketing campaign management, graphic design, web design, social media, and content management, with a focus on the core field of journalism. Finishing the program in 2015 with a 3.8 GPA and a portfolio bursting at the seams, I developed skills and experience during the program that distinguish me from most people in the fields of advertising, public relations, and marketing. I believe that my rigorous education in these areas more than compensates for any dearth of work experience that I may have.

While at Duquesne, I began pursuing freelance work in social media, graphic design, web development, and publishing, putting my studies of audience research, copywriting, HTML, and design to the test. Since 2013, I have been able to support myself with freelance work as well as contract positions in data management (with Edison Learning) and copywriting (with Dick's Sporting Goods), and this experience has given me a uniqe perspective on project management in which multiple faces of a project are tackled at once, client goals shape every step in the process, and audience research and reporting is regularly integrated into ongoing efforts. My freelance career has made me a goal-oriented multi-tasker who excels at working independently and with clients.

Following equally rigorous academic and freelance careers in communications, I am now seeking a challenging and constructive outlet for my skills, ideally a career in copywriting, advertising, or public relations. While I am always accepting contract and freelance projects, my main focus at the moment is to break into the advertising industry, whether with an entry- or mid-level position, contract work, or an internship. I am excited to offer my considerable talent to your team, and don't hesitate to contact me or peruse my growing portfolio. If hired or contracted, I can promise hard work, professionalism, and creativity in everything I produce.
